St. Patrick’s Catholic School & Literacy Center

In what has been termed a as “modern miracle”, St. Patrick Catholic School reopened as the seventh Jubilee School and the only Jubilee School which was built from the ground up. St. Patrick Catholic Church has a long history of educating children in the downtown area. The original school closed as a result of a shifting Catholic population in the area. The Memphis Diocese engaged our team to reinvigorate the face of one of the poorest neighborhoods in the country. Working with municipal leaders, we orchestrated an effort to impose eminent domain approval for the removal of adjacent derelict buildings. The overall campus plan established a density and scale appropriate to the urban fabric while also respecting to the original Romanesque style church built in 1866. The complex is organized around a fully –enclosed central courtyard offering much-needed recreation space for children and their families. Visitors enter the complex via a freestanding portal reminiscent of the period and access the various buildings through an informal canopy system. In addition to children, the Learning Center Community Building provides extended life-changing opportunities by offering secure community space to its students and their families.
